What is the Inner Magic Art Club?
The Inner Magic Art Club is a monthly online creative community led by artists Becky Hershey and Jessica Swift.
The most important thing you need to know is that you do not have to consider yourself an artist to join us here! Curious creatives at all levels find an inspiring + welcoming home here – even people who've literally never touched a paintbrush. Yes, really!
We gather together every month to make art and to explore creativity as a tool for things like:

At the beginning of each month we share daily art-making prompts to help you jumpstart your creative practice and ignite your inner magic. We also share an inspiring video pep talk conversation and playful creative exercises to try throughout the month!
LIVE COMMUNITY ART-MAKING SESSIONS
We gather live twice a month on Zoom to make art together! If you're looking for accountability in getting your hands messy and making time for your creative self, you'll love these live gatherings. You'll give yourself the gift of time to make art while hanging out with your soon-to-be-favorite people and listening to beautiful music, and you'll leave feeling energized, refreshed, inspired, supported, and seen. This is one of the best parts of the club, hands down!
ART-MAKING DEMO VIDEOS
Once a month we share an art-making video demo. If you're wondering what our personal art-making processes look like, this is where you'll get an inside peek! These videos will take you behind the scenes into the heart of our own creative practices – the tools we use, the messes we make, the pretty and the ugly, and everything in between.
LIVE COMMUNITY CONVERSATIONS
A heart-filled community circle is also part of the Inner Magic Art Club fun. This is where we meet live to connect, ask questions, get feedback and help, and check in with each other. These live community circles often include guided journaling prompts and creative exercises, too!
GUEST ARTIST INTERVIEWS + LESSONS
We looooove talking to other artists, creatives, and fellow curious seeker souls! We have conversations with inspiring creatives about real stuff – the good, the hard, and everything in between – and get an inside look into the creative worlds of the people who inspire us. Sometimes they teach us their cool techniques, too!
MAGICAL BONUSES

WHAT SORT OF SUPPLIES DO I NEED?
In the Inner Magic Art Club, all art supplies are welcome. The creative prompts, lessons, and live art-making sessions are flexible, open-ended, and can be adapted to any type of art supplies. We focus more on the internal process and less on teaching specific techniques using specific supplies or what your finished art looks like.
We recommend simply having a sketchbook and something to draw or paint with to start.
Any kind of sketchbook will do. It doesn't have to be fancy or expensive. Any kind of mark-making supplies will do, too – paint, markers, a simple pencil, a sharpie, oil pastels... anything goes! Again, it doesn't have to be fancy or complicated. A sketchbook and a pencil is enough. Using tons of different supplies is welcome too, of course! You can use as many or as few different types of supplies as you'd like here.
You have permission here to do things your own way. To explore. To play. To get messy. To not know what you're doing. To make ugly things. To make beautiful things. To feel free like a child in your art-making.
MEET BECKY
Hi! I'm a painter and mark maker who found my way home to art as my life’s purpose in 2017 after fifteen wild and intense years as an educator and mental health professional. Currently I reside on the edges of a magical birch forest outside of Philadelphia with my three favorite humans and three quirky cats.
Making art and engaging in a daily creative practice is a lifeline for me. Prioritizing time for curiosity and inspiration has allowed me to find clarity, navigate a more authentic and compassionate relationship with myself and others, and build deeper trust with my inner voice. Creating is how I celebrate the victories and navigate the challenges and sorrows.
I’m here to encourage you! To explore your inner and outer worlds through a creative practice. To build confidence and trust in yourself, both inside and outside of your art. To find the time and space where you can engage with art in new ways that bring insight, healing, and freedom. You are magical and the world needs your art!

MEET JESS
Hello! I'm a painter, surface pattern + fabric designer, and author, in Portland, Oregon. I live with my two young kiddos and our kitten named Magic. I make art because it helps me process my inner world, and I feel better when I do. And I know it can do the same for you!
I create and manufacture my own products in my studio and also license my artwork to others for branded products such as fabric, stationery, puzzles, books, and more. Making art is a lifeline for me – it's like my trusty compass for navigating my way through life and all its complexities.
I'm here to guide people like YOU into their own transformative creative experiences. Combining art-making, creative community + accountability, and deep, rich, real conversation absolutely lights me up. The world needs your unique magic, and I'm here to help you unearth and unleash it. Let's do this!
